How we research breeds
Our breed information is grounded in recognized breed standards from the American Kennel Club (AKC), the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), and The Kennel Club (UK), cross-checked against established veterinary and breed-club references. Facts like size, weight, and lifespan are verified against multiple sources; the prose is written by our team and edited for clarity — never copied.
Rankings reflect our editorial assessment of temperament, trainability, and suitability for a given home. They describe general breed tendencies — every dog is an individual, so we always encourage you to meet the dog, not just the breed.
Editorial independence & how we’re funded
Our guides are editorial and independent. The site is supported by advertising and, where relevant, affiliate links (we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you). Advertising and affiliate relationships never determine our rankings or recommendations.
Important: not veterinary advice
Everything here is general information to help you choose and care for a dog. It is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice. For any health decision, talk to your vet.
